For Oroton’s upcoming Autumn-Winter season, the mood is about dressing with ease and confidence, it’s about embracing the new in every inspired day – and feeling good for it. It’s the idea that your clothes should say something about who you are, and that the process of putting your look together each day should be uncomplicated, freeing even.

In the design studio, that philosophy came to life via a concise line-up that combines everyday foundation pieces with moments of whimsy and nostalgic charm. It’s true, the designers are constantly thinking about clothes that navigate the times, and how best to mix and match across a working week. As a result, silhouettes are elegant in their simplicity, relaxed yet polished. Italian wool suiting, for example, lends the collection a languid fluidity, think of it as the ultimate workwear series, while silk slips, bodice dresses and beautiful merino knits provide a softer touch, perfect for party dressing and after dark. Add in chic cargo trousers, tailored culottes, trouser skirts and elegant shirts in fine cottons and satins, and you have an all-encompassing uniform, a clever and unique way of dressing for every inspired day.

Then there are the head-turners: the feeling is that your accessories should convey a sense of hope and delight, like a celebration. Architectural and organic-shaped handbags feature alongside colourful must-have baguettes and – for the ultimate tokens of joy – limited-edition mini bags, a tribute to the house’s 85th anniversary and its iconic purses from the archives.

Colour is another talking point. At the beginning of each season, Creative Director Sophie Holt explores palette and the complexity of how the shades work together. For Winter, Holt arrived at a surprising combination of Citrine, Kelly Green, Hot Pink, with a glint of silver, which ties in beautifully with a neutral base of Vanilla Bean, Wheat and Tobacco. It’s an intriguing colour story that translates easily into real life pieces, while at the same time offering up a twist.

And personality is precisely the point. Holt has made a practice of refining utility shapes in order to build collections around function and form, but it is her modern approach to art, luxe detailing and vintage elements that is truly compelling. Craftmanship and the romance of vintage are major sources of inspiration, which we see play out via nostalgic details such as the fine fabric bows that accent a silk dupion dress, along with the house’s signature botanical motifs – this season’s artwork includes a garden print of ferns and butterflies stamped with Oroton’s founding year, 1938. It’s a nod to the spirit of the house, and it’s a fitting choice given it was built around a dream that craftmanship, artistry and beautiful design can continue to inspire the way we live, each and every day.
